The humorist Manolo Vieira, the Glen Miller Orchestra, the singer Olga Cerpa, the Christmas concert by the OFGC and the Grand Gala Verdi-Puccini-Bellini round off the month of December

Drama returns to the Pérez Galdós. Ever since its re-opening in 2007, the Gran Canarian coliseum has not yet presented spoken theatre. The programming is mainly composed of music, opera, zarzuela and on occasion ballet. Soon to take place is the premiere of Galdosiana, a drama by Fernando Méndez-Leite based on the feminine characters from the novels of Benito Pérez Galdós and with this work the management of the Teatro Pérez Galdós Canary Islands’ Foundation will reflect its unwavering commitment to the public. This drama, with the characters being performed by Cristina Higueras, Fiorella Faltoyano, Amparo Alcoba and David Sentinella, is to take place on 11th and 12th December at 20:30 hours.

This is one of the landmarks of the scheduled programmation for the month of December, which already comes loaded with great performances. The Teatro Pérez Galdós Canary Islands’ Foundation is setting out to ‘give away the theatre’ during the festive period with the diverse performances it offers.

On Friday 4th and Saturday 5th December, the humorist, Manolo Vieira. returns once again on these dates to the Pérez Galdós with his show Positivando, which according to him is about “putting on a friendly smile when posed with the daily problems, it is the possibility to laugh at oneself. As the word itself indicates”, he continues, “it is the search for positive hearty laughter when dealing with the day-to-day difficulties”. Manolo Vieira is to perform four functions in two days (at 20.00 and at 22.30 hours).

As previously stated, on 11th and 12th December all the attention of the Pérez Galdós is centred on the drama. The premiere of Galdosiana allows all the fans of the brilliant Gran Canarian writer, who gives the name to our Teatro, to go over some of his most important characters. Fernando Méndez-Leite has thoroughly scrutinized the texts of Realidad, Doña Perfecta, Tormento and Fortunata and Jacinta to offer us “an impressionist view of the world of Galdós”.

After this cultural event in Las Palmas, throughout the month of December, there are various performances on offer to attract different audiences. Glen Miller Orchestra, one of the most popular bands worldwide, is to go on stage at the Pérez Galdós on 17th and 18th December, and will pay tribute to the mythical Glen Miller with the best jazz sounds possible.

On the following day, 19th December, it is to be the turn of one of the best feminine voices of the Canary Islands. The singer Olga Cerpa, together with Mestisay, is to offer her performance of Romántico, thanks to the collaboration of Cope Las Palmas. The concert is presented as a celebration of almost two years on tour with this performance. Olga Cerpa and Mestisay will also perform new themes for the first time in this concert, which will be recorded and form part of the material for a DVD directed by the Gran Canarian film director Pedro Siemens.

On the days leading up to Christmas, 22nd and 23rd December, the Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria invites all music lovers to come and listen to a studied repertoire where it will be impossible to forget the festive time of year.

Likewise on the days leading up to the New Year the public of the Pérez Galdós have a new appointment with music, which on this occasion is to be with the Grand Lyrical Gala Verdi-Puccini-Bellini. This is to take place on 27th, 28yh and 29th December.

The Christmas offer is to continue until the month of January, as the day after Reyes (6th January), the Pérez Galdós offers the musical Mamma Mia! a genre with many followers in Gran Canaria.
