The stage director Ferrán Madico starts the set up of ‘Electra’ which is to have its debut in the Teatro Pérez Galdós in May
The production counts on an extravagant cast, with great actors such as Sara Casasnovas, Miguel Hermoso Arnao and Maru Valdivielso
The great speculation of the Teatro Pérez Galdós Canary Islands’ Foundation to offer dramatic theatre in the framework of the current season’s programme is to be confirmed at the beginning of May (Thursday 6th, Friday 7th and Saturday 8th) with the debut of the second production regarding a piece by Benito Pérez Galdós. After the première in December of Galdosiana, by Fernando Méndez-Leite, it is now the turn of the new adaptation Electra by the academic Paco Nieva to have its debut in the following month of May. With Ferrán Madico at the helm, the staging is starting to take shape with an outstanding cast taking part.
The rehearsals have been going on for a few weeks now in Madrid with the following actors: Sara Casasnovas (Electra), Miguel Hermoso Arnao (Máximo), Maru Valdivielso (Evarista), Sergio Otegui (Don Urbano), Antonio Valero (Pantoja), Pep Molina (Marqués de Ronda), Chema Muñoz (Cuesta), Mari Carmen Sánchez (sor Dorotea), Carles Moreu (Gil), Isabel Prinz (Balbina), Irma Correa (Patros), Antonio Requena (José) and Luifer Rodríguez (Mariano).
The actors of this ensemble cast are characterised by their artistic qualities which have been repeatedly demonstrated on stage and on television. And with nothing less to be expected, the following renowned Canarian performers are to be found among the cast: Mari Carmen Sánchez, Isabel Prinz, Luifer Rodríguez and Irma Correa.
This production promoted by DD&Company and with Dania Dévora at the helm also relies on the Canarian designer, María González, as head of costume design.
Furthermore the artistic crew stands out due the renowned prestigious figures in the Spanish theatral panorama. The head of stage design is Alfonso Barajas, lighting at the helm of Juan Gómez Cornejo, music by Óscar Roig and choreography by Sol Picó. The high level of this team guarantees an extremely successful performance.
After the première in the Teatro Pérez Galdós with the three performances (6th, 7th and 8th May) the staging of Electra is to be performed in Madrid in the Teatro Español from 10th to 20th June.
In the adaptation of Electra by Benito Pérez Galdós by the writer Paco Nieva, the Galdós’ spirit has been completely respected, although this formal version has been created in order to bring it closer to the current public. Ferrán Madico’ staging thrives from the contemporary scenic sources in order to make the most of all the current progression which will benefit a timeless text.
The great success of the universally known writer at the debut of Electra in 1901 was what led the Teatro to change its name to Teatro Pérez Galdós (called Teatro Tirso de Molina at that time).
