Electra is to be performed in the Teatro Español de Madrid and is to bring the Mérida Classical Theatre Festival to a close

Jerónimo Saavedra and Juan Cambreleng are doing a follow-up in Madrid of the production which is to have its première in the Teatro Pérez Galdós in May

The management of the Teatro Pérez Galdós Canary Islands’ Foundation, the president, Jerónimo Saavedra, and the manager, Juan Cambreleng, took part in a meeting with the company of Electra, led by the academic Francisco Nieva, the author of the adapted text; the stage director, Ferrán Madico, together with some of the members of the cast, such as Maru Valdivielso, Sergio Otegui and Antonio Valero.

Electra, by Benito Pérez Galdós, is a production of the Teatro Pérez Galdós Canary Islands’ Foundation, and is to have its première on the coming 6th May in the Gran Canarian coliseum, and is subsequently to travel to the Teatro Español in Madrid (from 10th to 20th June), before bringing the Mérida Classical Theatre Festival to a close, from 26th to 29th August. To be precise, the meeting which took place today in the Teatro Español de Madrid is in the same place as when Benito Pérez Galdós debuted the piece in 1901.

The lead producer of the project, Dania Dévora and the director of the Teatro Español de Madrid, Mario Gas likewise took part in this informal meeting.

The president of the Teatro Pérez Galdós Canary Islands’ Foundation and the mayor of Palmas de Gran Canaria, Jerónimo Saavedra, wanted to get to know at first hand how the rehearsals of this project were going, which as has already been stated, wishes to be converted into an outstanding show, which can be projected to the rest of the country and if possible, to the rest of the world.

After insisting that Electra was successful at its première, but furthermore still conserving contemporary values, Jerónimo Saavedra has congratulated Francisco Nieva on his adaptation of the text.

The stage director, Ferrán Madico, also agreed on restoring the strength of Galdós’ theatre, which is being analysed in the rehearsals of this project.

Ferrán Madico is at the helm of a cast of 13 actors, including Isabel Prinz, Luifer Rodríguez, Irma Correa and Mari Carmen Sánchez, natives of Gran Canaria, and counts on Alfonso Barajas for stage design, choreography by Sol Picó, lighting by Juan Gómez Cornejo, costume design by María González, who is also a native of Gran Canaria and music by Óscar Roig.
